Thank you for joining us with another author interview. Today it is with Rebecca Hefner an amazing new author who has completed her first series. Lets find out what makes Rebecca tick and her plans for the future.
Gina: Why did you become an author?
Rebecca: I’ve always been a voracious reader, so writing my own stories was probably inevitable.
Gina: What genre of books do you like to write?
Rebecca: I really enjoy getting lost in a great fantasy and in a great romance. I want to write books that have equal parts of both. In my mind, my books are a mash up of my favorite fantasies (Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Wars) and my favorite romance authors’ stories (JR Ward, Nora Roberts, Lisa Kleypas).
Gina: What is your inspiration for the current book or series you are writing?
Rebecca: I’m currently writing a post-apocalyptic dystopian sci-fi romance series! Say that three times fast. Ha! The heroine is a theoretical physicist who must solve time travel to go back in time and prevent the apocalypse. I’m a super science dork so this is such a fun project for me. I think that strong, intelligent theoretical physicists deserve love too!
Gina: I like that you are moving into a similar but different Genre.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Rebecca: A bit of both. I draft out a rough timeline but then I just let the words flow and let the characters take me where they may. They always take me to a much better place than I could’ve imagined.
Gina: I am starting to see that most authors are bit of both.
Have you had any setbacks becoming an author yourself?
Rebecca: Where do I start? Haha. I’ve learned so much from self-publishing. I’ve had roadblocks and setbacks at every step. I first published to Amazon, then published wide, then made audiobooks. Each step presented its own challenge. You just have to roll with the punches and realize you’re human and learn from your mistakes.
Gina: That is so true, there is so much to learn as an author.
What advice would you give to someone who would like to become a writer?
Rebecca: There are so many great resources on You Tube and online, both for writing and self-publishing. Self-publishing with Dale, Joanna Penn, Brian Cohen, Derek Murphy and The Writing Gals are just a few who come to mind. Digest their information—it was super helpful to me!
Gina: Sounds like you have a great team behind you now.
What is some of the best advice or inspiration you have received from another author?
Rebecca: Just put your butt in a chair and write. You can always edit it later, but if you don’t write, there’s nothing to edit!
Gina: What goals have you set for yourself in the future?
Rebecca: I would obviously love to be a bestselling author! We’ll see!
Gina: Don’t we all. How do you want readers to see your work?
Rebecca: I want readers to be whisked away to another world for the few hours they read my books. I want them to feel extremely emotionally connected to the characters and feel like they know them intimately. My goal is to inspire the *tingles* and *feels* that I get when I read books from my favorite authors.
Gina: Reading your books, I do get those tingles and feels from it. I think I cried when reading you touched me so.
Is there anything you would like to share with your readers?
Rebecca: I’m just so thankful for each reader who’s left a review for my book(s). Reviews are vital to an indie author’s success and each one is so precious.
Gina: Yes it is so important to us all. The next series you mention before, when will we be seeing it coming out?
Rebecca: The next series has been really hard to write, so I’m not sure of the release date yet. I’m really trying to power through it because it’s a passion project of mine, but it’s been tough!
Gina: Thank you for joining us today and sharing a little about yourself. Your future as a writer is looking bright with such a talent as you have. I look forward to the future when we can sit down and talk about your work again.
Rebecca: Thank you.
Gina: I hope the rest of you has enjoyed reading about Rebecca Hefner. If you haven’t check out her books, please do so now. You won’t be disappointed.
