Gina: What
is your favorite thing about being an Author?
Tina: I
love that I can escape the real world and create my own world, my own people
and pretty much add whatever I feel to it.
Gina: What
genre of books are you inspired most to write about?
Tina: I’m
currently writing two series. One is women’s fiction based on true events and
the other is a steamy suspense romance. I enjoy writing both but leaning more
to romance novels.
Gina: Do
you plot you’re books or let them lead you?
Tina: I’ve tried to plot a book and it
didn’t work. The characters will always take over and tell me where the story
is going. I love it because I have no idea how the story is going to end.
Sometimes it’s totally different than I had imagined.
Gina: What
is something you do when writing that keeps you going?
Tina:
I treat my writing like a job and I set goals every day. I also set deadlines
and a strict calendar of tasks to accomplish every day.
Gina: What
is your inspiration for the current book or series you are writing?
Tina: As
mentioned before I have two ongoing series. The Tammy Mellows series is based
on my life and I wrote the first one that shows the flip side of addiction and
how it affects loved ones of addicts because I couldn’t find a book about the
subject when I was looking. The second one in the series, Better Endings, shows
how someone can overcome anything if they face up to the challenge and give it their
all. I was a commercial fisherman for
ten years. An industry dominated by men where I had to prove myself when the
rest of the fleet believed I wouldn’t make it through the first season. This
book tells that story.
The second
series is a steamy suspense romance and no it’s not based on my life LOL but a
lot of it takes place on the beach which I do enjoy.
Gina: Have
you had any trial or errors that has cost you in becoming an author?
Tina: Yes going with a publisher for my
first book. I will get the rights back next year and will then self-publish
it. The rest of my books are
self-published which means I’m in control and the royalties are much better.
Gina: What would
you say to someone who wants to become a writer?
Tina: Be
prepared for a lot of hard work. Discipline yourself to not only write everyday
but also read. Learn everything you can about the steps on publishing a book
before you even decide to publish and get a good editor.
Gina: Do
you have another author who has given you advice or encouragement?
Tina: I
have a great circle of author friends and we all support each other and have
long chats about what we are doing. We all know we can ask any one anything
when we need help. My dad was also an author and he defiantly inspired me to
take this journey.
Gina: What
goals have you set for yourself for the next year?
Tina: My
goal is to finish the last book in the Tammy Mellows series and have two more
books written in the Steamy Romance series (The Sabela Series)
Gina: What
do you want readers to see or feel most when it comes to your stories?
Tina: I
want them to be lost in my stories. I want them to connect with the characters
and relate in some way. My characters are everyday people that we all probably
have in our lives. Most of all I want them to feel satisfied when they have
finished the book.
Gina: Is
there any juicy tidbits you can give us about your next book release?
Tina:
The last book of the Tammy Mellows series will reveal why I quit the fishery.
Gina: What would you like to say to your
readers and anyone interested in reading your books?
Tina: The
one thing I would like to say is if you’ve read any of my books and enjoyed it,
Please leave a review. They are so important not only to authors but readers
too and also support an author by recommending a book and not loaning a book.
Gina: With your newest release, what is something
you learned from writing it?
Tina: The third book in the Sabela series
titled Claire should be out by the middle of June if all goes to plan. The
Reunions which is the third and final book in The Tammy Mellows series is due
to be out by the end of the year.
Gina: Thank you for your interview today. Please check out Tina Hogan Grant's Newest release below and some of her other books.
