Author Dee James is
with us today and her book “Mr. Perfect” is one of the first new author
books I ever reviewed. Up until this year, 2019, I reviewed just books as I
read and enjoyed them but becoming an author myself I wanted to change my
reviews and focus on those that were just starting out like me. Dee was one of
them and I was so impressed with her work. I have just read her second book to
this second look series and I can tell you now, I will be following her work
for a while. So let's get started.
Gina: Why
did you become an author, Dee?
Dee:
I started reading from a very young age, and over the years predominantly read books
in the romance genre. Over time, when some books weren’t written the way I’d
have wanted it, I started making up those alternate stories in my head. That’s
when it struck me – why not write stories just the way I want? Blogging and
then self-publishing has given me the platform to do exactly that!
Gina: What
genre of books do you like to write?
Dee:
I currently write in the romance and rom-com genres. Whether or not I will
diversify in the future, it remains to be seen 😊.
Gina: I
think you are in a wonderful genre.
What is
your inspiration for the current book or series you are writing?
Dee:
The current book that I am writing is the third book in the ‘Love @ Second
Sight’ series. I wrote the first book when I was going through a rough patch in
life with ill health among other issues. I wanted to write something fun,
something light and sweet. That’s how Neil and Tanya came about! Once I started
writing the other characters in this book, I very soon realized each of them
deserved their own story. And, that’s how this series was born!
Gina: I
like that you have continued it on with Natasha in the second book. The mystery
you left in the first on her was just enough to make me want more.
Are you a
plotter or a pantser?
Dee:
Honestly, I am a bit of both. I’d like to have an outline or sorts before I
begin writing the book. Of course, after beginning to write, the book and the
characters take their own course.
Gina: I
hear that all the time. Seeing it is one thing but writing it makes it we can
see the curves in entanglements change.
Do you
have any quirks or habits when your writing?
Dee:
I have a particular spot in a café that really, really works for me. With some
coffee and my happy spot, the creative juices just flow in 😊.
Gina: I
can just see you in a coffee house just typing away with a grin on your face.
Have you
had any setbacks becoming an author yourself?
Dee:
Not really! I love books, I love reading, and I love writing even more.
Whatever be the pace in which I grow, or the reach I have, I accept it and work
with the flow. I strongly believe if I am happy and do justice to my craft, the
resulting product will be loved by my readers. I haven’t really been proven
wrong so far!
Gina: Your
reviews have all been amazing from what I can see. I think your on the right
track.
What advice
would you give to someone who would like to become a writer?
Dee:
I’m not sure if I am worthy to dish out advice. But, if I must share something,
I’d say this; love what you do, keep learning and improving, and hone your
craft well.
Gina: What
is some of the best advice or inspiration you have received from another author?
Dee:
I’ve been fortunate to meet some wonderful human beings who have shown me what
passion is, in this self-publishing world. In particular, my very good friend
and editor – D. R. Downer – has been a pillar of support and a source of
inspiration; unconsciously pushing me to write more and write better. Deep, if
you’re reading this, thank you 😊.
Gina: What
goals have you set for yourself in the future?
Dee:
Write, write well, and write more. I also want to learn all the aspects of
publishing better and help my author friends any which way I can.
Gina: How
do you want readers to see your work?
Dee:
Growing up, books have been an integral part of my well-being. In particular,
romance books have soothed bad days, given me hope, and have helped me see the
silver lining even when there wasn’t one. I want my books to be that ray of
sunshine and that spark of hope for my readers. I hope to achieve that someday 😊.
Gina: I
think your on the right track. I get that from your books.
What
should a reader expect to see from your next novel?
Dee:
My next novel is about a commitment-phobic billionaire and a simple, next-door
girl who changes his perspective of life for the better. This book will also
throw light on issues like female health and body-shaming – issues that are
close to my heart!
Gina: Is
there anything you would like to share with your readers?
Dee:
Yes. There are a huge bunch of very talented authors (self-published) here in
India who are brilliant and who literally write in all the genres. Give us a
shot :D!
Gina: Thank you Dee James
for sharing with us today. I know you’re a new author and you have started out
slow but you have such a talent for writing. I enjoy your work and I know other
will too if they will just give you a shot. I wish you luck in the future and I
will be sure to keep following.
Dee: Thank
you.
Be sure to check out one of
Dee James’s books when you have a chance.
