Gina: Why
did you become an author?
Em: It
is the only thing I can do and not become bored with it. I’ve always wanted to
be everything and do a little bit of it all, and writing gives me that
opportunity. I’ll admit writing down my thoughts and feelings in story format
is therapeutic as well.
Gina: What
genre of books do you like to write?
Em: ROMANCE!
I love, love. The strength and pain we get from our bonds with others is
magical and sometimes it takes wonderful connections that can be limitless.a
story to show us that. Right now I’m stuck on Reverse Harem novels.
Gina: What
is your inspiration for the current book or series you are writing?
Em: My
current story was inspired by a song, “Woman Like Me” by Little Mix, but the
main inspiration was based on women who are different from the mold of “perfect
princess”. I wanted a story where normal men accepted normal women, and none of
them were how we expected them to be.
Gina: Are
you a plotter or a pantser?
Em: A
plantser actually. I plot at the beginning - an outline, character profiles, my
main and side plots highlighted…and then I deviate every time. I’ll outline
multiple times throughout the story as it changes, most of the time because of
the characters decisions.
Gina: Do
you have any quirks or habits when your writing?
Em: I
listen to rainymood and drink coffee to be completely relaxed. A funny quirk I
have though, is that I’ll get up multiple times while writing and walk through
the house before coming back to the computer. It happens more often when the
characters are making me laugh or cringe. I just need a moment away from them
at that point.
Gina: Have
you had any setbacks becoming an author yourself?
Em: I
have. I released my first novel in August of last year; it took me six months
to write it. Well, needless to say, it tanked, badly. I couldn’t justify my
time and costs for my failure, but I couldn’t walk away from my passion without
trying again either. I release my second novel on February 29th, 2020 and am
expecting better results. If not, I’ve definitely had fun trying and made my
peace with that. :)
Gina: What
advice would you give to someone who would like to become a writer?
Em: Do
it for yourself and you’ll find joy in writing. Writing is different for
everyone - each story has its own voice, each author has their own way - but
without a passion for your work, you’ll burn out and find more excuses than
inspiration. So find your passion and write for yourself, the work will show
your effort.
Gina: What
is some of the best advice or inspiration you have received from another
author?
Em: “You
can’t please everyone.” This one is so simple, but so very powerful in its
truth. Everyone is different and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Gina: What
goals have you set for yourself in the future?
Em: To
write. It’s that simple at this stage for me. I can hope to be great, to be
followed, to be known for my work, but I just need to focus on writing at this
stage. Maybe I’ll be someone one day, maybe I’ll be invisible, but I’ll enjoy
the journey no matter.
Gina: How
do you want readers to see your work?
Em: You
know the iconic image of the light passing through a prism? I want my work to
be the prism and the readers interpretation to be the light. I want a rainbow
of representations and daydreams that far surpass my own to be inside my
written work.
Gina: What
should a reader expect to see from your next novel?
Em: My
next novel will be the start to a new series that is a different take on the
Reverse Harem genre that I love. In every novel my readers can expect bonds
that are forged through trials, a different view on the world through something
small (it’ll be different each time), and an openness to ideas that I hope we
can all achieve one day.
Gina: Is there anything you would like to
share with your readers?
Em: One
of the harshest truths I learned growing up, is that the monsters look just
like we do. It was at that time that I also learned the heroes do as well.
Everyone gets to choose their path, and change it at will, not just in stories.
I guess what I am saying, is that anything is truly possible. The only thing we
can’t change, is another’s choice - that goes both ways too. :)
Gina: When will your next book be coming out?
Em: February 29th, 2020
Gina: Thank you for your interview today.
Em:Thank you for having me!
